When a friend or a family member sees a restaurant or bar that they think I will like, it usually involves great food especially chicken wings, sports, and of cours beer. So, when my sister-in-law recommended a bar that had all 3, I was easily persuaded to make a trip despite hearing how damn packed they are. When I don't want to wait for a table, I tend to go out earlier to my favorite spots. In this case, it didn't really matter as we showed up at 6pm to fight for a table. Luckily we got in when we did though, because I ridiculous crowd followed by the time we left.
Sitting down at our table, being surrounded by TVs, and seeing the very nice selection of beer on a white marker board, yeah, I was at home, I was in my element. Looking at the board with the beers, I was quite impressed with their selection. A lot of my brewery favorites are listed here, Stone, ommegang, Sam adams, harpoon, etc. I really wanted to try something different.
Dark horse crooked tree IPA caught my eye. I have been meaning to try this beer, and I really love IPAs. The IPA came out in a nice 22 oz tall mug. The IPA had a really great hoppy bite, some pine and citrus hop notes. The flavor said hey, I am an IPA and the hops were there and decently strong. I like a little more balanced IPA, something to counteract the bitter hoppiness, and they almost got that balance that I like. A nice clean finish. The beer was very tastey and an easy to drink IPA. It was refreshing on a hot day. Not the best IPA I have ever had, but definitely a good example, and good enough to get a second 22 oz. 3.5/5
All the wings were categorized as plane themed, hence, "Hangar" such as bomber, puddle jumper, zeppelin, etc. The one we got was 25 wings, called the bomber. We picked 4 flavors, ranch, sweet chile, citrus chipotle, and BBQ. MMM, the flavors were so good, my favorite by far was the sweet chile. I am on a big fried pickle kick. I love how crunchy and chewy, and salty-sour they are. I love the flavors and textures. I think the fried pickles at Hangar are the best I have had so far! And we also shared a buffalo chicken quesadilla, which was of course excellent.
Well a big thanks to my sister-in-law for the great recommendation. What an awesome place! I shall be back real soon hopefully. Especially since there was a big sign that said Amherst brewing co. will be coming across the street of Hangar in August! Can't wait!
