This beer was a little disappointing. I like trying beers that I know nothing about, and hoping that I will get a pleasant surprise. Here we get just an average beer, not saying it is terrible, but probably wouldn't get it again, nothing special. Pours a hazy yellow with thin head. The initial flavors are sweet like honey, and then you get a little spice and bitter, but not enough to counteract the sweetness. I think the amount of sweet in this beer makes the beer fall short. If you like a sweeter beer, this beer would be great for you. For me, I was expecting a little more but it still quenched my thirst. 2.5/5

Victory- Prima Pils
There are a lot of pilsners out there that are so-so. It is a very common style. I almost feel like there is a negative attachment to "pilsner" just because of all the macro beers. This Pilsner goes above and beyond all of that.
Pours a darker golden color. Leaves a decent head for a pilsner that stays a little. A little bit of lemon zest, some definite floral hop notes, a lot more hop than your standard pilsner, toasted pils malt flavor, a nice bitter note, but a smooth clean finish, very delicious and refreshing. This is not your average pilsner, this is an excellent beer with great flavor. 4.5/5 highly recommend.

North Coast Brewing Co.- Pranqster Belgian Strong Ale
I drink a lot of local beer and american craft beer, but we wouldn't be anywhere without the hundreds of years of brewing in Europe. When it comes to imported beer styles, I love Belgium, hands down. The country has a long history of making great beers. Some of the best American beers are influenced by Belgian beers. Pranqster is a great example of one of those beers.
I had no idea this beer had 6.9% alcohol in it. It drinks so smooth. There is a lot of carbonation and it drinks easy and refreshing. Pours a golden color with a thin head that holds nicely with all the carbonation. There is a nice spice of corriander that is balanced out perfectly with malty sweetness. Has a clean smooth finish. There is nothing off about this beer, it was a great experience overall 4.5/5. Excellent beer.

Rogue Black IPA
My new favorite style is the "black IPA" which falls under the category of american black ale. I love dark beer and I love IPAs, so you can kinda say it's the best of both worlds for me. I am going around trying new black IPAs to see which ones I like the best. So far I really like the Ottercreek Alpine Black IPA. Let's see how this one compares.
Pours black in color, a thick creamy head on top that stays. The beer has some definite chocolate and coffee notes. The hop flavor is very strong and earthy. The finish is quite bitter. Pretty smooth and easy upfront with the richness of a porter. All around nothing too much to complain about a solid beer. I think I would like the beer a little better if it had a better finish, there is an off flavor once the beer has been drank a while. 3.5/5. Not the best so far, but enjoyable
I have asked a few craft beer drinkers on a forum for some recommendations of this style and I have made quite a long list. Looks like I got my work cut out for me :)

Jambalaya: A mix of grilled meats and good brews
I had a jambalaya rice mix and decided to start grilling some meats to mix in with the dish. Jambalayas are great because they have a little bit of everything to offer. I started with some Jalapeno flavored sausage, boneless chicken breast, and shrimp. The sausage I threw right on the grill. The chicken I rubbed with a little olive oil and chicken seasoning grinder from the store. The shrimp I mixed a squirt of lemon juice, sazon, paprika, chile powder, garlic powder and put them on skewers.
All the grilled meats were grilled to perfection. All the flavors in the dish went well nicely. There was a little spice to the rice and from the Jalapeno sausage. But, the spice wasn't overpowering. I have plenty of left overs and chose to enjoy 2 different beers with this dish. Victory Prima Pils and Southampton Keller Pils. Both were summery beers, that were light in color and refreshing. For a pilsner, both beers had a nice hop kick to it as well which was unexpected but appreciated. Both beers paired really well with the grilled meat flavor and also the hops went nicely with the spice of the dish. The best thing about Jambalaya is you can expiriment and do different variations each time.

Craft Beer Stores: Ryan And Casey Liquors
I find it hard to find liquor stores or package stores ("packy") as we like to call them in New England, that have a great beer selection. There are a few huge supermarket sized liquor stores that have quite a selection, but usually not at these small local shops. The case is quite different at Ryan & Casey liquors.
I have heard many good things about this place, and they have a huge beer fest there every year which I still havent had the chance to go. In Greenfield,MA the next town over from where my in-laws live is where you find this great place. When you see the store, it looks like your typical small, local, family owned packy. But, inside is a whole 'nother story. Jam packed with beer from around the world. Tons of local craft beer in the refridgeted section. Lots of growlers and 22 oz bombers too. For such a small store, the selection is great. Lots of beers I don't typically find in CT like Goose Island, Cisco, Anderson Valley, Smuttynose, and much more. I now know where I will stop each time I visit and when I move to this area. And maybe finally I will get a chance to go to their annual beer fest!
Goose Island Summertime
A kolsch style beer from Goose Island Brewery- Chicago, IL.
This is my first time trying Goose Island, which I have been hearing a lot of great things about and I finally found it in a store. I was in the mood for something light, summery, and refreshing. Summer beers are either hit or miss with me. My biggest complaint with summer beers are they can be the old same old, kinda boring, and very little flavor. I want my summer beer to be refreshing but flavorful. When I think of summer beer, Kolsch is definitely my favorite style for summer beer.
I really enjoyed this version of a kolsch from Goose Island. I have had a lot of Kolsch beers that I didn't really care for and this definitely isn't one of them. I like the obvious citrus flavor here that a lot of kolsch beers lack. There is a nice mild citrus hop flavor here. Some good spice and a sweet caramel malt. This carbonation is crisp and clean, this beer has a nice clean refreshing finish. A very satisying and excellent summer seasonal. It really hits the spot on a hot day. A great first experience from Goose Island and hopefully many more to come 4/5.

Hangar Pub & Grill - Amherst, MA - Wings & Dark horse crooked tree IPA
When a friend or a family member sees a restaurant or bar that they think I will like, it usually involves great food especially chicken wings, sports, and of cours beer. So, when my sister-in-law recommended a bar that had all 3, I was easily persuaded to make a trip despite hearing how damn packed they are. When I don't want to wait for a table, I tend to go out earlier to my favorite spots. In this case, it didn't really matter as we showed up at 6pm to fight for a table. Luckily we got in when we did though, because I ridiculous crowd followed by the time we left.
Sitting down at our table, being surrounded by TVs, and seeing the very nice selection of beer on a white marker board, yeah, I was at home, I was in my element. Looking at the board with the beers, I was quite impressed with their selection. A lot of my brewery favorites are listed here, Stone, ommegang, Sam adams, harpoon, etc. I really wanted to try something different.
Dark horse crooked tree IPA caught my eye. I have been meaning to try this beer, and I really love IPAs. The IPA came out in a nice 22 oz tall mug. The IPA had a really great hoppy bite, some pine and citrus hop notes. The flavor said hey, I am an IPA and the hops were there and decently strong. I like a little more balanced IPA, something to counteract the bitter hoppiness, and they almost got that balance that I like. A nice clean finish. The beer was very tastey and an easy to drink IPA. It was refreshing on a hot day. Not the best IPA I have ever had, but definitely a good example, and good enough to get a second 22 oz. 3.5/5
All the wings were categorized as plane themed, hence, "Hangar" such as bomber, puddle jumper, zeppelin, etc. The one we got was 25 wings, called the bomber. We picked 4 flavors, ranch, sweet chile, citrus chipotle, and BBQ. MMM, the flavors were so good, my favorite by far was the sweet chile. I am on a big fried pickle kick. I love how crunchy and chewy, and salty-sour they are. I love the flavors and textures. I think the fried pickles at Hangar are the best I have had so far! And we also shared a buffalo chicken quesadilla, which was of course excellent.
Well a big thanks to my sister-in-law for the great recommendation. What an awesome place! I shall be back real soon hopefully. Especially since there was a big sign that said Amherst brewing co. will be coming across the street of Hangar in August! Can't wait!

Spicy Palo Santo Chicken Wings and Heavy Seas Dubbel Cannon
I had a bottle of Dogfish head Palo Santo Marron left over from the 4 pack I purchased. I was thinking of pairing it with cheese or another dish. But, I decided to cook with it instead! I wanted chicken wings so why not cook the chicken wings in beer!
I poured a 12 oz bottle of Palo Santo Marron
I added about a cup of teriyaki sauce
I added a whole bottle of hot sauce
About a quarter cup of honey added
I mixed this liquids together nicely until well blended
I added the mixture with the chicken wings in my crock pot and let the wings slow cook on low for about 10 hours!
After the wings were done, they were fall off the bone tender. There was a nice spicy kick from the hot sauce, slight sweetness from the honey, salty from the teriyaki, and a really nice flavor from the Palo Santo Marron beer.
I decided to make some hand cut steak fries in the oven. 450 degrees for almost 30 minutes got them crispy golden-brown.
I needed a beer to go with this nice plate of goodness. When I think of spicy foods, I like to go with a good pale ale or IPA.
I decided to go with the Heavy Seas dubbel cannon from Clipper city brewing co in Baltimore,MD. A really excellent belgian style IPA! When first drinking this beer, I thought yes another delicious IPA. Copper Orange color, nice thin lacing on the glass. Citrus hop flavor, malty sweet, and belgian yeast. A very refreshing tasty beer from start to finish with hops, balanced sweet, and spicy finish. I enjoyed this beer a lot 4/5!
The beer paired really well with the wings and fries. I was quite pleased with myself with everything from the meal to the beer I drank with it. The only thing I needed was some bleu cheese or ranch!

Avery Redpoint Ale
The beer pours a dark amber color. Pours a thin head. The beer has a slight nuttiness and caramel malt sweetness. The mouth feel is slightly creamy and smooth. There is a very slight hop taste here. The flavors in this beer don't mix very well here. There is something off about the taste of the beer almost like a burnt sour bitterness that doesn't go well here. I had to actually try to get to the last gulp on this one. This beer is now retired and I can see why. Nothing special here and not what I was looking for 2/5.
Widmer Bros. Citra Summer Blonde
It's hard for me to really diss on a craft beer from a respectable company like Widmer Bros. However, this summer brew did not do it for me. There is a nice orange color here and a thin head that dissipates quickly but leaves some nice thin lacing. The beer is easy to drink and refreshing. Some citrus hops here, little spice, and a slight bitterness of orange zest. I was expecting this beer to be a little more flavorful, instead, tasting very watered down. I was expecting more citrus, zest, malty sweetness and spice. There are some good qualities here, but I was expecting more. I did not find this beer to be horrible, it was decent, and I would drink it again due to the fact that it is easy to drink. 2.5/5

Troegs Brewing Co. Anthology Mix 12 Pack
This is the mix pack of the company I have been meaning to try and looking all over to find their beer, Troegs from PA, USA. This mix pack has 3 bottles of each 4 styles. I find these styles to be a great mix for summer time beer drinking!
The Sunshine Pils- is a pilsner that packs a punch.Pale yellow in color, pours a small head that dissipates quickly. Some nice noble hop notes here, lemon zest, earthy spice, grassy, grainy. This pilsner has a lot more flavor than your typical pilsner, but it is still very drinkable and great for summer. 3.5/5
Hopback Amber - A nice twist on a classic amber. Here we taste a lot more hops than usual for an Amber ale. Caramel and bready malts compliment the strong hop flavor here. I really like the bitterness in this amber ale. It has a nice smoothness to balance off the punch of hops very well. 4/5 great beer!
Pale Ale- Typical pale ale here with a nice hop flavor. It is crisp and refreshing. Some citrus and grassy hop flavor. This beer is a lot better than most pale ales you get in a sampler pack. It is the perfect summer beer for someone who likes hops 3.5/5.
Dreamweaver wheat- A german style hefeweizen with a nice strong wheat flavor. Orange peel, nice spice of cloves, nicely balanced and easy to drink. 3/5
There isn't a bad beer in the bunch. Troegs Anthology mix pack has a nice blend of classic styles great for summer. But Troegs doesn't come with the bare minumum here. These are some well crafted beers with lots of flavor. I am very impressed with Troegs, this mix pack, and I am glad I finally got to try Troegs!

Victory Brewing Co. - Helios
Helios Farmhouse/saison - Victory Brewing Co. PA,USA
I love saisons. This particular saison is a new favorite, I absolutely love it. 7.5% ABV . Got this in a 22 oz bomber. Pours a really nice head and a hazy light orange color. This beer is excellent and loaded with flavor. Very very tart, I love the tartness. Flavors of lemon and orange zest, fresh grapefruit, honey, nice sourness, yeasty, a nice slight hop note, crisp high carbonation. I am blown away by this beer, it is very delicious. I would definitely have this again, as it is one of the best American saisons I have had in a long time. If you are a fan of Saisons, I highly recommend this beer! 4.5/5

Hershey's Milk Shakes
A radio DJ for a local rock station has been raving about and promoting these Hershey's Milk Shakes. Yes, I don't just love beer, I love a lot of beverages, including milk shakes. After hearing about these milk shakes on the radio a lot , I decided I should give them a try. They come in Chocolate, strawberry and cookies and cream. Let me tell you, they are so damn good. So far I have tried the cookies and cream and the chocolate. The cookies and cream tastes like a liquid cookies and cream candy bar. It was nice and cold, thick, rich, and creamy. The chocolate puts chocolate milk to shame. It is very rich and chocolatey, and both flavors taste just like a milk shake. I am glad I finally tried them. They stay true to the hype, I say try them for yourself, you are in for a real treat!
Big Breakfast , homemade!
I love going out for breakfast. Whenever I go out for breakfast, I look for a big breakfast plate. A plate that has a little bit of everything. I have been babbling about making breakfast for a few weeks now and finally got the chance.
I started with some homefries. Diced up onions and potatoes. I seasoned the homefries with salt, pepper, and paprika. I started cooking the onion first. Once the onion was softened, added the potatoes. I cooked the potatoes up until they were golden-brown and tender. Meanwhile I've got bacon cooking in the oven. I also have scrambled eggs in a different pan. While the bacon, homefries, and eggs are finishing, I've got the toast going. A great cook is a great multitasker. And you have to be a great multitasker to pull off a breakfast like this nice and quick. Well Seasoned golden-brown homefries, fluffy-buttery scrambled eggs, toast and crispy smokey bacon! The breakfast was great! Everything came out as planned so whats next? Pancakes? Biscuits n gravy? French toast? we will see!

Paper City Brewing Co. - Triple XXX Lager
Paper City Brewing Co. -Holyoke, MA
Tried this beer out of a 22 oz bomber purchased at table & vine. This is a stronger lager at 6.5% ABV. This beer is very different tasting for a lager. It pours a nice head with a yellow-orange color. Nice carbonation here. The taste is quite hoppy for a lager. Some tartness, bitterness, grassy, musty yeast, sweet bready grainy malt. I like how strong this lager is, yet it is very drinkable. I had this lager on a hot day, and it was quite refreshing while having a nice flavor. I felt the flavors were very different for a lager, but it was well balanced, and they just worked. A slightly above average lager at 3.5/5

Ultimate Burgers!! Bacon, Mushrooms, Onions, cheese and kitchen sink sauce.
It all started when I was hungry, really hungry. I had a 4 day weekend and wanted something good. For some reason I have this relentless urge to eat bacon. Bacon, bacon, bacon. I can't get enough lately for some reason! This calls for some ultimate burgers!
I started with sauteing some onions and mushrooms and cooking up the bacon. Getting all my main ingredients together.
I knew to make the ultimate burgers I needed an ultimate sauce. A kitchen sink sauce. Why would I call this a kitchen sink sauce? Because of course it has everything but the kitchen sink. Here are some of the things in the sauce: mayo, french dressing, ranch, mustard, bbq sauce, creamy garlic dressing, ketchup, worcestershire sauce. Yes I know that sounds ridiculous but I was trying to finish up condiments and it ended up working out to be a very tasty sauce believe it or not!
Ok so time to grill the burgers. I like to grill them medium to medium well. When making ultimate burgers you need a strategy for how you're going to put it all together. One main problem with mushroom burgers is simply the mushrooms go everywhere when you eat them. To solve this problem, I simply took the cheese and melted the mushrooms on top of the burgers.
Time to put the melted mushrooms and cheeseburgers on top of the lower bun. Now, ready to build the rest of the burger, yes it's kind of like building a house. We have the foundation of the burger, lower bun and melted cheese and mushrooms. Ready to go now with the bacon and large onion slices to hold on the bacon. To finish this project, I now spoon on the sauce. I enjoy this ridiculous burgers with some sweet potato fries which are also really good with the kitch sink sauce by the way. The best thing about a great burger is the customization. I was very satisfied with all my favorite classic toppings and a new sauce to make it indeed, an ultimate burger!

The Search Continues...
I got in touch with the marketing person from Ithaca Brewing Co. She was very helpful and very personable in the email. She said she would forward my email to the distribution people to find out where I can get the delicious Flower power IPA. I still have yet to get any email from any beer distribution, so the search continues. However, I did get a prompt, helpful email from marketing with a lot of great information about the brewery, maybe I will just have to go visit soon!
